Images from a short but amazing trip to Cannon Beach, Oregon. We were gifted with some irregularly warm and sunny weather. Such a beautiful place! Also, you may notice a theme in these images - the famous Haystack rock is hard to ignore.
Soaring at Sunrise
A pair of bald eagles soared through the scene as I watched the sun rise at Ecola State Park. So happy I was able to get this shot, as finding eagles along the coast was one of my favorite parts of the trip.
Flight Club
A group of pelicans flying through the rock formations on Cannon Beach. I loved the golden light highlighting the spray of waves and the faces of the sea stacks.
Coastal Retreat
I am assuming this a popular location for photos of Haystack Rock as this tree sits just off the main road. However, I was happy to find it and made sure to come back one evening for sunset.
Shadow of Tillamook
Layers of sea stacks at Cannon Beach. The misty island in the distance features Tillamook Lighthouse, aka "Terrible Tilly", which sits over a mile offshore.
Ecola Morning
As I was walking back to my car I saw this elk start to amble towards the crest of the hill. I rushed to get into position and love how this one turned out with the silhouette of the elk. The light was starting to get a little harsh so I prefer this one in black and white.
Breakfast Time
Early in the morning I found a pair of eagles enjoying breakfast on the shores of a beautiful beach next to Cannon Beach. It honestly felt like a dream. A moment I definitely won't forget! And I am pretty sure I captured these same two eagles later in the trip in the photo titled "Soaring at Sunrise".
Golden Hour at Cannon Beach
A simple composition but lovely light at Cannon Beach, as the sun illuminated the western face of Haystack Rock.
Endless Coast
My wife and I walked this beach for miles and it extended for many more. We could've spent a whole day walking this beach if we wanted to.
Lucked Out
I felt like the luckiest photographer on Earth getting such an epic sunset at Cannon Beach. This time of year, the weather is usually cold and foggy, yet I managed to get a couple of evenings of awesome light. This picture doesn't come close to doing this sunset justice.
Tolovana Locals
I stumbled upon a cute population of local bunnies one evening as I searched for a new composition of Haystack Rock. There were various colors of large bunnies hopping around the grassy park. In the 1970's, people released their pet bunnies in the area, and the population has thrived.
Midday Mist
The hike down to this beach was epic as we hiked through an old growth Sitka forrest in Ecola State Park. The seastacks off the coast of this beach were towering, and there were starfish everywhere as we arrived at low tide.
Pile o' Starfish
Not the best photo I've ever taken, but I wanted to document the many and colorful starfish on this beach. There had to have been hundreds glued to the rocks of this beach.
